a parenting tid bit and a rooster, just for fun…..

January 19, 2012

My hubby has been teaching a parenting class at church the last few weeks. He is teaching from the book Parenting is Heart Work. One of the best parenting books we had ever read.  Driving home last night,  I was thinking about some of the questions that were being asked and some of the stories parents have shared.  I think it is safe to say, we all want to be good, godly parents and want to raise kids that love the Lord.  One thing I really want to highlight is….

I think when we are talking about the heart, we can never under estimate the power of prayer.

Its when we don’t have any answers in ourselves and we are at the end of our self or our knowledge or our skills, or what was suppose to work with our kids,  that we  humbly bow before the creator of the world and ask Him for guidance. (Not sure why we wait so long sometimes trying to figure everything out alone.. Can I get an amen? 🙂  or is it just me who waits?… Accidental confession)

We can actually approach the throne and ask God for the ability to see the unseen, to hear what is not being said. Goodness gracious, He is the creator of our children, He knows every intimate detail about them, He knows every stinkin hair on their head.  I guess if He knows all that,  He knows what they are saying in their heart. Every day of their life was written before one came to be.  He loves them even more than we do.  It is Him we must ask for the wisdom to know when to discipline and when to extend grace.  It is Him we must go in our room and shut the door and ask, what to do in situations when it is less than easy, less than obvious. (most of the time, right?)   Lets be honest, we can learn a lot about heart work and that is good, we should be learning and growing. But at the end of the day, God is the only one who can change a heart. He is the only one capable of cultivating the ground of our heart and our childrens’ hearts and making them ready to receive instruction. And isn’t it  Him, that as our children grow and mature, that we ultimately want our children to go to, when they wrestle with heart issues.  It is so important to make sure we are walking in an intimate relationship with the Lord ourselves so we can hear instruction in our own life.  That has the greatest ability (what we are learning about becoming more like Christ) to spill over onto our children.  I have had to learn that the hard way, I wont share any examples. 🙂

Isn’t it refreshing to know……

We don’t need all the answers, we need to know Who has the answers. We don’t need to be perfect, we need to know who is perfecting our faith. Its God every time.

Psalm 51 The Message
 1-3Generous in love—God, give grace! Huge in mercy—wipe out my bad record.
Scrub away my guilt,
soak out my sins in your laundry.
I know how bad I’ve been;
my sins are staring me down.

4-6 You’re the One I’ve violated, and you’ve seen
it all, seen the full extent of my evil.
You have all the facts before you;
whatever you decide about me is fair.
I’ve been out of step with you for a long time,
in the wrong since before I was born.
What you’re after is truth from the inside out.
Enter me, then; conceive a new, true life.

7-15 Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean,
scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life.
Tune me in to foot-tapping songs,
set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don’t look too close for blemishes,
give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don’t throw me out with the trash,
or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile,
put a fresh wind in my sails!
Give me a job teaching rebels your ways
so the lost can find their way home.
Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God,
and I’ll sing anthems to your life-giving ways.
Unbutton my lips, dear God;
I’ll let loose with your praise.

16-17 Going through the motions doesn’t please you,
a flawless performance is nothing to you.
I learned God-worship
when my pride was shattered.
Heart-shattered lives ready for love
don’t for a moment escape God’s notice.

Girls blog

We do not remember days……………………….we remember moments. :)

i am not sure who wrote that, but i agree and tonight was a night i want to remember.  we took a walk to our community park, nothing out of the ordinary but i was aware of the fact that my girls arent always going to be this age.  and i felt blessed to be with them, just spending time together, laughing with them, holding their hands and talking all the way there and all the way back.

Well, it has been a HUGE last couple of weeks for us in ballet and it all came to a close on Friday night.  Claire had her in house performance that we had been looking forward to. :)  It was amazing to see how much her dance has changed even in the last few months of moving here.  She has adjusted well to the different ballet technique and LOVES her new teachers and the girls in her classes.  It was an exciting day and we thought we would share it with you. :)  We started off the day with school, of course………………………….. 🙂

May 19, 2008

This was a crazy, busy, fun weekend.   🙂  We had ballet rehearsals, a crawfish boil and then a beautiful ballet recital on Sunday night.  The icing on the cake was the family members that drove in to make it such a special night.  Pats parents and aunt and uncle drove in from Kentucky and SURPRISE… parents made a road trip from Fort Wayne!!  They arrived in time to change and head over to the Martha Ingram PAC, watch the ballet, eat tacos with us and headed home – probably arriving back around 6am!! 🙂  Alivia was SO EXCITED to have so many people there to support her. We are so blessed to have such amazing families!!! 🙂  Here are a few photos from the weekend… that my little girl???  sniff, sniff……… what is going on here?

Love you sis, you danced beautifully. XXOO

Claire_blog So – somedays I feel like being creative, and some days I just struggle to get the laundry clean, folded and put away all in the same day.  🙂

There are several photographers that I follow through blog stalking and they are so inspirational to me.  🙂  By the way, blog stalking is a perfectly respectable thing to do.  🙂  I guess you could even call it one of my hobbies.

ok, on with the story, so since I moved to TN I have met an incredible photographer who also happens to go to our church.  I have had the opportunity to spend a few days here and there learning, shooting and just plain having fun with photography.  So inspired by Danny, I did a little mini shoot with Claire this morning.

My little girl is going to be 10 years old in the fall and I can hardly believe it.  I have always loved her dark wavy hair and blue sparkly eyes.  I truly see her eyes sparkle and I know it is Jesus and His love for her just bursting out. 🙂  The eyes really are a window to the soul.  Love you Marida.

April 17, 2008

there have been so many things going on that i havent had time to blog.  i am also an avid journaler so between the two i feel behind.

i wanted to throw a quick photo on of Alivia. we were at the ballet studio last week and she was waiting to go into class.  it wasnt anything really planned but as i look at the photo, i can see my little girl is growing up!  she is going to be 12 in a few weeks and it is so hard to believe.  i still think of her as this little toddler with a huge smile and fly away hair.  now she is growing into a beautiful young lady who is very graceful, a hard worker, good student, and loves Jesus.  i am so thankful to God for my girls!! 😉 Img_7577abw
